This is continuation of Post: Getting Marriage certificate under Hindu Marriage Act 1955.
Now when you have got the documents listed above, we come to step#2 which is submitting the document at SDM office.
First thing you would ask is where is this SDM office. SDM which stands for Sub Divisional Magistrate - has several offices in Delhi, and there are specific areas which comes under each one.
You can find out which SDM office you would have to go to by clicking here. Just enter your police station area and get the name of SDM office. No, that does not end here - as of now, you just have the name, not address/contact.
You can go here and in the search box search for name of subdivision + "SDM". For example - My subdivision was Rajouri Garden so I searched for "Rajouri garden SDM" (minus quotes).
Most probably on the first result you would have complete information about your SDM office (if not, then explore and google)- now you can note address and also call them up to confirm that your area comes under them and also timing of submitting documents. [If you have a better way, please suggest in comments]
Note - here 'your area' means the area for which you are showing the address proof under point 3 from my list of documents in earlier post.
Now, that you have all documents (along with originals) and the address of SDM office; pull up your pants and visit them during hours 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday to Friday (it would be better if you can call and confirm the timing as mentioned above) with listed documents + originals. I would advice to reach 5-10 min earlier than start time so that you are the first one in and get the SDM in an unspoiled mood. Nothing much to specify here - you give him/her docs and answer any question he/she has. Also note that document submission can be done by anyone - not necessarily husband and/or wife (and/or witness).
Now, if you are able to submit documents you would be asked for Rs. 100 (might change in future) as a fees; and you would get a date on which husband, wife and witness would have to come with original documents @ 10 AM.
This final day is not much of deal except that you would have to be there by 10 AM and then sit around for 3-4 hours doing just a bit of form filling and checking the details to be printed on marriage certificate. At the end of this waiting period you may be asked to meet ADM to collect marriage certificate or just given marriage certificate without even seeing ADM. There will be two copies of the certificate - one for husband and other for wife.
I got mine after 3 visits to SDM for submission of docs and then the final day got certificate after 3.5 hours of waiting. As I mentioned, I listed this process just to help you get through it with least amount of pain. Best of luck and do drop me a note in comments about how did it go!
Also feel free to share the link of this process with your friends and family! [Facebook and twitter share button are there just below the post]
